Yasmina's Dance Stories

Where to begin my thoughts on my dance and convey it to you my dance sisters, students and friends. First I would like to tell you my feeling on dancing and how I dreamed of becoming a dancer when I was a little girl. First it was from watching my mother dance around the living room, then later watching movies with Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Ann Miller, Gene Kelly, Leslie Caron, Rita Hayward, Debbie Regnolds and Donald O’Connor. I went to a Broadway show in New York City and saw Ann Miller starring in Auntie Mame, what a performance!!!!! Wow!!!!

Unfortunately I never had the opportunity to take dancing lessons when I was little girl. When I grew up that was a whole different story. It started back in my twenties where I wanted to take Modern dance lessons at the local Valley College, but classes weren’t starting for another 6 weeks. I had a work friend of mine that suggested I take Belly dance classes at the local YMCA. So I started lessons and became hooked.

During that time I had an Arabic friend that was from Jordan. He told me that if I was going to learn belly dancing that I should learn from an Egyptian teacher and I asked him why! He explained that they were the best. Just a few months after that, I heard about a local Egyptian teacher right in my town where I lived and that is where it all started!!!
